Default Speedometer too dark & hard to see. Or is it just

I have a Black 2003 PT Turbo with Purple Flames. I love my car, but that's a given! I really have a difficult time seeing the speedometer during the day, especially if I have my sun glasses on. Am I the only one with this problem? It seems to me it could have been brought out to the front of the little "tunnel" they put it in for better viewing. Is there a "fix" for this???

Is the interior dimmer switch on the left turn signal stalk turned to off? If not, then the gauges will look dim during the day.

Cathyg2004,
Welcome aboard. I believe it's your dimmer switch also.[8D]

I too have the same problem. It's when the lights are off, it's still daylight, the "tunnel effect" is working and there is also reflection.
There are certain times of the day and certain outside light situations where the speedometer is virtually unreadable. In daylight,IMHO, there is not enough contrast between the dial face and the numerals to make it readable. But then, who looks at the spedometer anyway? Go with the flow.[8)]

Welcome to the forum, CathyG2004. I experience the same problem--just not enough contrast under almost all conditions except at night. This is one of the very few "minor complaints" I have about the car.

Lack of contrast on the '03 GT's was/is a problem for many owners. It appears that '04's fixed the problem by 1) increasing the daylight contrast and 2) switching to a lighted (rather than reverse lighted) night scheme. Other than change out the faces, there is little that can be done to "fix" the problem.

I found it hard to read the speedometer too in certain light conditions. At first, I thought maybe I needed to adjust the dimmer switch, but was disappointed to find out it was already as bright as it was going to get

Since then, I think I've adjusted to it and don't really find it a problem. All in all, it's a small annoyance compared to the pleasure of driving my PT.

Welcome CathyG2004 to the Forum. I also find it hard to see the numbers, but I've gotten used to JUST looking at the position of the needle. It happens more with the sun over my sholder and when I'm wearing sun glasses. (Reflections[xx(])
