Default armrests

I have a 2001 converted 4 door convertible. The passenger side front does not have armrest but the driver does. I am planning on replacing the cloth seats with leather. Did the original 2001 come with 2 armrests? If not, would it be a problem to put an armrest in since I will be recovering with leather?

Unfortunately no. The 2 arm rests came out with the 2002 model. You could either use the 2002 leather seats or buy a wide armrest.

Not sure if the 2001 passenger seat frame has the hole drilled for the arm rest and/or if there is a plug there that you can remove and add the passenger arm rest in.

Yeah I have a 2001, with only one armrest. My friends are always comlaining about it. I was thinking about buying a new set of them from PT Tuning.

Welcome to this forum, Sharbent and Taylormade.
There have been some ups & downs in PT standard issue over the model years. '01s had only one armrest, big headrests in back seats and only front window switches on the dash. They had an engine modesty cover, and early ones had front seat headrests that tilted as well as up/down. '02 added rear window switches to the dash, a passenger armrest, but only early '02s had a modesty cover on the engine. '02 got smaller rear headrests (for visibility out back). Since the '02 model, most changes have been "down" - outside mirrors don't fold, and you can't get them heated, etc., but now all but base models have painted bumpers.
So much for PT trivia.....

Maybe its just me but the driver seat armrest is about worthless, I end up using the one on the passenger seat. It's too low and tilts down in the front.

No one has mentioned that there is a kit from Chrysler to add the second armrest to the 2001 passenger seat.

It's detailed in the guide at www.ptdiy.net

I'm the guy who got the parts together and wrote the guide. Since then, Chrysler has packaged the kit through www.ptdiy.net

I've added the passenger armrest to over a dozen local 2001 PTs.
It takes about 1/2 hour to remove the seat and add the brackets and hardware.
