Does anybody race their PT or any car in SOLO II races? I just read about them and it sounds like it would be a lot of fun, especially for a beginner.

That does sound like fun. Do you have a link or anything about it?

I did it in my 98 Dakota R/T Club Cab, but if you want to do it in a PT, you better get some sway bars, lower it, and a strut tower bar. These cars are loose as a tub of cottage cheese!
You'll enjoy it!

Yeah, I figured. I have BTG springs, but I'll definitely need to get the sway and strut bars.
TaylorMade, heres a couple links from MotorTrend. They had an article about it... www.solo2.org www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm www.sdr-scca.com/solo2 this one is local to me but with good links and info... www.wwscc.org

I run a Mazda in SOLO II E-modified class.
I would never consider the PT. The high center of gravity, the enormous 3200lbs, and the cushy suspension & sloppy steering keep me driving a 'real' sports car (read: small, rear wheel drive, precise handling, high power/weight ratio). |

Wow, this does sound really fun. Where are the events held? Are there any in the phoenix area?

its great if you like hard starts and sharp turns that kill your car.
if i wanted to do that id go to the stop and shop and race aroud the shopping carts. Check out a time trial day on a road course, you actually get to go over 50mph

Several PT owners have asked about autocrossing their PT. Here's a chance to see what they can do. It's an open invitation for all makes to come to the Tire Rack in South Bend on August 7th and 8th. Here's what I received from the Windy City Miata club: http://www.windycitymiataclub.com/autox for info On August 7 and 8, Windy City Miata Club is hosting two autocrosses at Tire Rack's test track in South Bend. Open to all cars, but we hope to see miatas from the local area join us. Newbies welcomed. We have loaner helmets. Come one or both days. Mazda North America may sponsor a dinner for Saturday attendees. More on this later. We will cap the number of cars because we like to get at least 8 runs at our events. As we're a miata club, we put all non-miatas in one class and don't bother with PAX or any of the SCCA classes. Enjoy the seat time. The notification form is here: http://windycitymiataclub.com/autox...ation_form1.htm The info page is here: http://windycitymiataclub.com/autox...utox_7_2004.htm I will have nitrous refills and possibly race fuel available at my shop during the event. My shop is 2 minutes from Tire Rack. I will schedule chassis dyno time at my local dyno shop if there is enough interest. |

I am hoping to enter one tomorrow in my GT Turbo in GS. I was in one last year with my GT and 2 the winter before last in my 2001 Touring PT. They are a lot of fun although they would be more fun if I had sticky tires instead of the Goodyears.
