Wow. What is it with some people and road noise? Very sensitive ears? I don't notice intolerable road noise in the '01 or the '03. In fact I don't notice a lot of road noise either. Not trying to put you folks down but you should have bought a Lexus or at least spent twice the money you spent on the PT if you want a car you can hear a baby fart in. [:I]

I don't find mine very loud,in fact, I thought it was reasonably quiet. Have been in quieter cars but they were much more expensive.
I do know some audio shops sell sound deadener material for the doors etc. I have a Big B Auto catalogue that sells this stuff in fact. |

Adding sound insulation works. Dynamat or Pyle PLMAT1 is expensive but a favorite among sound system enthusiasts. An alternative would be to use an OEM type of self-stick sound insulation like Cool & Quiet or Soundproof Foam (need glue):
http://www.coolandquiet.com/product_detail.cfm?Prod=4 http://soundprooffoam.com/products/v...composite.html Need to remove all the seats to properly soundproof the floor. Check the clearances, esp in the doors, to make sure you aren't causing/adding another problem. Also check to see if the previous owner removed any sound material and/or if the existing sound deadening material has deteriorated (from spilled liquids, etc). You did say your door weather seals were coming off. Noise could be leaking/coming thru from that. But I agree with the other posts. The PT is a pretty quiet car for the price, but doesn't match far more expensive cars for overall quietness at any speed or road conditions.

A while back I notice a whisling coming from the drivers door
while going at highway speeds. The fix was to put my knee in the middle of door and pull in on the top of door with my hands with a short firm pull, do both the front and back of door. Since I did that I have had no more problem.Only had to do this on the 03 the 04 was fine. Both are quiet riding, I have no complants.

Just turn the radio up.
My car is real quiet, I don't really notice any road noise.

change your tires, make sure alignment is correct and wheel bearings are not worn.

rallydrock is on the right track. all ofthose items will affect road noise intrusion. tires make a very significant change in the road noise transmitted into the cabin. in my experience, michelins and other tires with a high mileage rating can transmit noise due to the harder rubber in the tires. tread pattern will affect noise. noise is so subjective, some love it, some hate it. everything else considered the pt rides a lot quieter than what i anticipated. more insulation to fill some of the voids between the body panels and the interior panels will prevent some noise from coming in.

Is there anything that I can use on the underside of my car that will not be effected by environment? I was thinking of putting some sound insulation under the rear area over the top of the muffler area.
