Default How far can I go on a Full-Tank?

I'm taking a 4hour/240ish mile trip Monday to visit my Grandma. This will be interstate driving, but I'll be traveling over alot of mountains.

How far do you guys get with a Full Tank of gas? I'm guessing it woudl be over 300miles right?

I drive to Washington DC alot (i live outside of fayetteville, nc) to visit my folks. it's about a 6-6.5 hr trip. I can make it up there on a tank and a splash of gas. it's about a 400 mile trip (i think). i have to drive on US 1 to get to I-85 then I-95 in petersburg then to US 301 to where my folks like. i would say it's about half "rural" driving half highway driving. hope it helps

[:I]I recently went on a couple of trips with similar distance. No mountains here in Florida but I still didn't get 300 per tank, more like 265-280 (about 22 -24 mpg).[:I]

Guys,

It been suggested/recommended that you don't go below 1/4 tank. The fuel pump is inside the tank. it is lubricated/cooled by the gasoline itself and could "possibly" be damaged by running without the surrounding gas. Why take the chance? I take 4-5 (900 mile)trips a year up north and start looking to fill-up when it reaches the 1/4 tank mark. It gives you a chance to rest/stretch and clean the windshield.

You should be able to go 300 miles easy and still have over a 1/4 tank left. Might want to disconnect the battery for a few minutes before you go to wipe out any "learned city driving" stored in your PCM, unless you drive a good daily city/highway mix. It just resets the computer back to baseline settings.

You should be able to do that with one tank and have some left over. I have a 2004 with turbo and even when hubby drives like this [8)] at 90 miles an hour we only used 3/4 of a tank and went 278 miles. Was'nt freeway but was through NV which is long straight strecthes and some mountain driving.

MY trip to Nevada, I got an average of 27.5 mpg. My last trip around Montana I got 29.4! that's the best I've ever got...and the only difference is I put a K&N filter in. Anyone else see this difference?

You should be able to do it on a single tank. But as Crewzin said, you're better off treating your 1/4 tank line as your fill level. I drive back and forth from the MD/No VA area to NYC a ton and can make it on a single tank - that's on average 4-5 hours.

Lots of conflicting opinions about K&N Air Filters and how well they really filter out particles when compared to other air filters and if K&N's need the extra foam pre-filter (if available for your application) installed for proper or additional filtering. And then there is the question about the air filter oil migrating to/getting on/and affecting your MAP sensor (plenty of TSB's from all car manufacturers about that). Can do a search on K&N, read the posts in the Air Filters section, and UOA's (used oil analysis) over at Bob The Oil Guy,
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

And a test: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

Nothing wrong with paper filters. They are cheaper, just drop in, and some flow just as good as the washable filters. Besides, can anyone really feel 1 to 5 claimed extra HP? Paper vs Foam vs Cotton Gauze has been debated ad nausea for decades. Some swear by some products, while some have bad experiences and accelerated engine wear, and others point out that's the problem, experiences/test results aren't consistent for all applications, so paper is the safe bet for a daily driver. Confusing isn't it.

That being said, on the highway I avg anywhere from 28-33 mpg and 22 mpg in the city (with stock filter).
