Just wondering havn't seen anyone post a picture of a PT 4 door conversion. Wondering how they like it, what are the plus and minuses, compared to the 2 door factory. Is the conversion cheeper?
If anyone has a picture also please post it.[8D] |

newport convertibles did a rag top version of the early pt cruisers. the took a 4 door, hacked off the top, did some reinforcing, put in a rag top and sent them on their way. there is a dealer in the seattle area that bought a bunch of them. the sales stunk up the place because the convert conversion was usually done on the "classic" (cheapest) or the touring edition. with the added $ for the rag top people did not want cloth seats and a stripped down model, they wanted leather with all of the options. those conversions sat on their lot for a loooong time. they finally had to remove the second sticker and cut another $4-6K off the price, and they still had them on the lot. ouch. one of the members in out cruiser club (Puget Sound Cruisers) has one of these conversions (inca gold dream cruiser). she has made numerous stops @ the dealership to address water leaks, but that is now under control and she seemed not to be gritting her teeth about the car. the lines of the newport conversion are a little more pleasing IMHO than the factory version (the top looks like something from an early porsche speedster --but partially collapsed. there is a picture @ www.pugetsoundcruisers.org then click on cruiser's rides and scroll through the pictures to find the inca gold rag top. and there you have it.

Not to mention the occasional 60 MPH convertible top liftoff. A woman who bought one of the 4-door conversions at my dealership had one of the convertible top latches fail at 60 MPH. Not pretty!!!!
My dealership now dreads those cars ever since they took delivery of them. Scott
