Default 70 mph misfire?

At about 70 mph I noticed a loss of power for just a split second. like a misfire or something, then it would regain normal power again. It did this several times, but there was no check engine light.

I thought I had read a thread about this a few months ago, but it must have fallen off the boards, into an archive somewhere, because I can't find it now.

Anyway, any ideas what it might be?

Thanks.

You said in one of your other posts that you had 24,000 miles. The problem your most likely experiencing is in the spark plug wires. Quite a few of us had problems with mis-fires and stumbling and new wires cured it.

If you go to the trouble of changing wires...might as well through in a new set of plugs too.

Agree completely with Crewzin. I love the Champion platinum plugs, but I think I remember posts by MX-5 that copper is better for the turbos????? I'd also say not to use stock wires - get Crane or magnecore - last longer than stock.

Yep, new plugs & wires are definately on the list.

I'll check out copper plugs & crane or magnecore wires. Thanks for the tip!

Check in the Turbo forums. There is a TSB that fixes this by replacing the PCM (computer brain). Be prepared to argue with your dealer. It may be easier if you search the turbo forums and print out the TSB before you go to your dealer. I think the TSB is 18-029-03 but I could be wrong on the number.

TSB 1802903. But there's also one on the spark plugs:

Maybe push for both.

I have had this problem with my 2003 PT GT. I have found out that there is a problem with the cars computer and there is a service bulletin for this and if you take the car to the dealer, they should replace your ECU. I have not taken mine yet, but I did call and they said that they could do it when ever I have time to do it and that it should not hurt the car what so ever to continue driving it until its repaired. A;so, I have noticed that it happens mostly between 5000rpm and 6000rpm usually in first & second gear (my car has an autostick) and that doesn't seem to make any difference as to wheather the computer is shifting for me, or if I am using autostick.
