Canoe

Anyone out there have any experience cartopping a canoe on a PT Cruiser? I have a 17-foot aluminum canoe and am wondering if this car is capable of hauling the boat.

How do you plan on putting it on top of the car? Are you worried about weight? Do you have roof racks?

I carry 2 17' Touring kayaks each weighing about 65 lbs. on my Thule racks on top of my 2000 Grand Caravan and it works great.

No rack. Hoping to use the foam blocks that slip over the gunnels. Bigger problem is how to tie everything down. Doesn't appear to be a good tiedown point, front or back. Also wondering about the slope of the roof.

Yes that does become a bit of a problem. If you use the foam blocks, in addition to the straps anchoring the canoe to the roof, I would make sure that I use a rope from the bow and the stern of the canoe, to stablize it a bit as you don't have a lot of roof area. Wish I could offer more advice.

Yes it would be very difficult to strap it down, you would have to roll down the windows slightly and run the straps through the car. I noticed this morning that my neighbour has someone visiting them from out of province and they have a Thule Rack on it, I should walk over and take a closer look at it.

Well, if you get a chance to take look at it, let me know what you find out. Check out how they tie down the fron and back.
