Default Question about Watts link

At times there's a clunk sound from the rear underside of SOOO BIG .
The repair video I watched say it's a worn center bearing in the Watts link?

Should the Watts link be replaced?
Let unattended, can it damage anything else?

Cool Re: Question about Watts link

how many miles are on the car?

I don't think there will be any bad long term issues of not replaced, aside from the clunking noises... There may be some reduced control of the rear axle, probably only noticed with more aggressive driving.

I would replaced both lateral links and the Watts link at the same time. The prats aren't too expensive and the labor shouldn't be too bad either.

Worn center bearing or bad shock? Either manifests as a heavy clunk from the back end.

The center bearing is most easily diagnosed by simply grabbing on and giving it a tug. If there is play, it's shot.

Not the most critical repair to perform, but complete failure can result and you'd not want to be the driver when that happens.

Replace all three pieces together for about $100 and 1/2 an hour. Rear axle on jackstands, two nuts and one bolt, and pull it out. Assemble new parts just like the old and bolt it back in, suspension still compressed.

Might as well throw on some new shocks while you're there.

My 08 PT has just over 90K miles on it and have replaced the watts link twice (or is it three times), the roads here in Michigan are terrible. Also replaced the lateral arms with it on one of the occasions. Be sure to pay attention to the orientation of the bellcrank so as not to install it backwards or upside down... should be an "up" arrow on the casting.

If you buy one don't get a ACDelco Professional brand. I did and after a month it started clunking again. One, half as expensive, off ebay worked fine. It's important it has a zerk.
