Default TPMS sensor replacement

My PT is going on 14 yrs old. The tire pressure sensors in the wheels are original. How long does their internal battery usually last?
Looking at getting some new tires and it would be a good time to replace the sensors if necessary.

If new sensors are installed, will programming be required or will the system self-learn after driving a few miles? The system on the PT is pretty basic so programming may not be a requirement.
