Default 05 GT Exhaust manifold removal

Hi everyone,

I have a nasty exhaust leak coming right out of the heads at the manifold. I am going to attempt to solve this problem myself over the weekend. My question is has anyone else done this before? I have done a quick search on the turbo forum but didn't see anything. It seems pretty straight forward but that isn't always the case with the pt's I have found lol any way I figured you would need to remove or disconnect the exhaust from before the cat back and disconnect the turbo oil and coolant lines to remove the manifold and turbo. I was also wondering if there was a way to just remove the bolts from the manifold and leave the turbo lines intact and just slide the manifold back enough to put the new gasket in? thanks in advance for taking the time to read and help!

It is pretty straight forward R&R. Do not be surprised to find lots of cracks inside.

You may want to post pictures and or PM for details about if a successful repair can be done?

Hey Nitro,

I have heard storys of the manifold being cracked itself. I haven't gotten the heat shield off to check from above but I did take the car to a friends shop and put it up on the lift to see from below. We didn't see much from the bottom. He pulled out a stethoscope and was able to hear it come from one of the cylinders but that doesn't mean its not from part of the manifold hoping its not the whole manifold

You could just remove the turbo from the exhaust manifold. You also have coolant lines as well as oil lines. You might just be able to lay the turbo off to the side enough to get to the exhast bolts. I have done picks in my members project thread. Busteds project 1 page 14.

The cracks that cause performance loss are in the inside of the Turbo exhaust manifold.
