Default Question about brakes

Yesterday while driving my 2005 GT I noticed a strange symptom. When I would stop at a traffic light or stop sign, the brakes would stick. I could completely take my foot off the brake pedal with the car in Drive and it didn't move a fraction. When I gave it gas, it would move but reluctantly. When I got home, there was a strong brake liner smell coming from the car. I briefly looked at the brakes through the wheels and didn't notice anything out of the usual, but there was a LOT of heat coming off of the brakes.

How do I troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance.

If you are asking this question then I strongly recomend that you take your PT Cruiser to a service shop that offers free brake inspections or just have a general automotive service shop inspect your brakes before continuing to drive with the condition you are describing!

The least I recomend would be to find a freind,co-worker or neighbor that you feel or observed is a DIY gear head have a physical look at your brakes.

Modern Brakes from about 1995 and new vehicles requires some experience to work on them and to diagnosis problems.

My Ranchero had the same symptoms a few years back. It was so bad after a couple of stops that the front tires locked up. After sitting for an hour or so, they freed up. Had it towed home and found that the brake fluid was old and contaminated causing the seals in the master cylinder to swell. Installed a new cylinder, new fluid, flushed the system then bled the brakes.

Guess I should have tried doing some burnouts!
