Anyone familiar with vehicles knows that occasionally you need more space to store your little things. My PT Has a storage drawer under the passenger seat but not under the drivers seat. Why? You may ask. Simply put, Chrysler doesnt want to be responsible for any accidents thanks to the driver digging around for things between their feet! The shelf is not on rollers so it takes some effort to open the drawer so it wouldnt just slide open while youre driving.
So to make extra storage I decided to take a visit to my friend "Taupe" out at walters salvage yard ![]() In order to add the shelf to the drivers side you have to first get the brackets and shelf out from underneath the passengers seat of another PT. To do this you can follow the instructions for removing the seat out of your own pt that ive put in below. First things first, Move the seat youre working on removing all the way up towards the front of the car. From the back seats you can see two 13mm nuts. These two need to be removed. They may be on very tight, remember that these screws keep your seat from flying out in the event of an accident. ![]() From there you need to go to the front of the car and remove two more 13mm nuts from underneath the front of the seat. You may have to slide the seat back again. These may be on tight as well and are the last nuts to remove before your seat will come out of the vehicle ![]() Once they are removed carefully remove the seat from the car. Be careful not to scratch the door while removing the seat. After its removed feel free to do some deep cleaning! ![]() Now with the seat removed and on a clean surface as to not get stains on your fabric, you need to remove two plastic covers that are meant to hide the ugliness of the underseat. These are easily removed by using a phillips head screwdriver. ![]() Now with those removed there are only two 1/2 inch nuts to remove to remove the metal bracket. Its a tight squeeze but by no means impossible to remove them. ![]() Once its removed youre all done! All you have to do now it put the new bracket on with the shelf and youre complete. Installation is the reverse of removal. Just remember to tighten all the nuts and screws tight, Youre life could depend on it!!! Heres a picture of the bracket with the shelf, and the bracket that doesnt have the shelf track. ![]() Once you have everything put back together you can bask in being able to have more storage room. I used this drawer to store my owners manual, registeration, purchase documents, and some extra fuses. Ideally I would only recommend to store things that wont be used often, as you really dont want to have to get something while driving. And to protect my hiney, Im not responsible for any damage done as a result of performing this mod. ![]() For this and more info on things Ive done to my PT you can visit my blog at The Pickled PT, And Other Pickled Things

For reference just in case, these things will work on either side, so you could take a seat with no tracks from a pts drivers side and put it on the pass. Side with a track so ud have two seats with no track incase u use the area under the seats for subs or an amp or both

Yeah, it was super easy to do and adds a nice touch to the look of the pt interior. Really everyone should do this! Got the drawer and mount for 20 bucks for the junk yard.

Great idea but just don't reach down there for your documents if your stopped by law enforcement before explaining. Be a perfect place to carry a hand gun and you don't want to be mistaken for doing something your not. 99.9% of owners carry their papers in the glove compartment. ....just saying. ...and before anyone says this should be a sticky, Dill already explained in his first paragraph why Chrysler didn't put the drawer under the drivers seat so I won't put the owner of this forum (or me) in the position of condoning this particular mod, even if it is a good one. OK Crewzin, I'll keep that advice in mind. I keep the car papers locked in the glove box for security since they include personal identity information.
Having installed the drawer under my driver seat in January, I appreciate the extra storage and simplicity of this mod-retro fit. The drawer contains a small whisk broom, hand cleaner wipes, napkins used for checking oil, etc and my OBD2 code reader used too often to clear the p0440 & p0441 errors. http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/325780-post9.html |

Lol well ive since moved the registeration to the glove box for that reason.
But its a great place to store little used things, as well as helps the interior look uniform. As far as why chrysler didnt put the drawer in, im not sure if thats the exact reason but its a good guess! Thedrawer shouldnt be able to come out on its own at all but maybe in odd cases if the drawer isnt made right, it coukd possibly slide out maybe. But so far ive been fine. Has anyone had their drawer on the passenger side slide out when its closed properly? So I respect the reason not to have it stickied (and dont really see why it should be unless people started asking how to), its not really something thats a "mod" but if someone looks up this, theyve got pictures and info on how to do it. With the large number of these parts in the yard, it just becomes a practical thing to do if youre looking for extra space in your car.

Getting way too conservative on this site. Won't condone this mod??? Really, you have door pockets like crazy, you've got all kinds of stashes around the driver, and unless it's illegal, I don't understand why this would be any more dangerous than adding a drawer to the center console, the back seat, or any place else in the car. I mean are you going to prevent posts from people discussing texting while driving? I really can't see how adding a drawer is a bad idea....
Anyway, would say it's a nice mod but don't want to get other members angry at me for agreeing with what you did Dill. By the way, what's the hammer for??? lol |

Chromnut,
Read what I said again. I said (twice) it's a great mod. All I said was don't bend down in front of law enforcement and look for something when asked for your papers or it could be mis-understood. I just cam back from the Law Enforcement Memorial Day Service. 69 officers have lost their lives since the first of the year. 3 in the Tampa area 100 miles south of me and all three were at traffic stops on the road. Your blowing what I said all out of proportion. I'm not preventing ANYTHING, just giving advice and didn't say anything about texting while driving but anybody with a brain knows it's a BAD thing. I'm just not making a sticky of the mod, that's all. |

I've spent years supporting this site and have never wavered in my actions, opinions, behavior, etc. I'm a "what you see is what you get" kind of guy. Now in the last 6 months all of a sudden I'm being lambasted and lectured and warned about posts that are no different than what I've posted over the past several years. Ask the members here - do I help out on these forums or am I a hindrance??? Maybe I should post a poll for that allowing the ultra-liberals a chance to voice their opinions on your right-wing forums. These forums should remain middle of the road, and you should stop judging every post and person here. This is my opinion, I don't know if anyone else agrees and personally don't care. You like to edit my posts rather than speak to me about them, so I'm sure this one will get edited too, especially since it's the ultimate in thread jacks. But I'm just sayin..... |
