Question 2002 PT Cruiser died--Help!

Can anybody tell me what it is? Driving along with cruise control on driving 60mph No idiot lights on temp normal. Manual Trans in 5th gear. Felt like cruise slipped 2 times. Has happened in the winter when very cold so I took out of cruise control. Then something popped. Felt like I hit a wall. Big puff of smoke then engine died.

Got out looked under hood to see what I could see not that I would know what I was looking for. But no visible fluids under hood or under car except the normal run off from A/c. Got into the car tried to start again. It did start and died again maybe 50 feet later. Acted like it was not getting fuel
