Unhappy 2001 PT Cruiser LE Boken Help

My son was driving my PT 2001 Automatic 2.4 and all the sudden it just stopped! I took it to the mechanic he said the timing belt needed replaced. Now he has called an said that the 3 Valve is bent, a 450.00 job went to 1300.00 to repair. I suggested finding a used engine he said that would be less expensive but then once he gave me the new quote it wasn't. 475.00 to put in the engine plus an additional 300.00 in labor to replace timing belt. I need to know where to begin to look for a new engine and what a good price is? Please help me!

I would suggest you check your local Craigslist site and look under the auto parts section. I know where I'm at in MI, I've seen a few engines on there and a full parts car or two. Best of luck.

How does he know #3 valve is bent?
Pulling the head isn't really that much harder after you have timing belt off-
need to remove a support to exhaust manifold, the cams and timing cover-

Valves are pretty cheap, IF it is indeed bent, which is unlikely.
