Default New PT owner. P0440/ P0441/ P0481

Hello all. I am a new PT owner.(2004 Touring 123,000 miles) I recently noticed a "Chime" after I would start my car, not knowing what it was I started reading my manual and found out that all the dash lights should illumanate once I insert the key. This was not happening. All the lights EXCEPT the check engine light would become illumanated for about 4 seconds. So I did the code check and found 3 codes.

So what I did was tightened the gas cap. Opened the hood and tightened all the fuses as well. I think a couple were loose.

I then disconnected the battery (Neg only) and waited 5 minutes. After reconnecting, all the codes are gone. Do you think they will return? The one I am worried about most is the p0481.

Oh and about the check engine light not working.....Any suggestions?

I do know there's issues with fans, and that the issue comes up frequently.
I don't know much about them, I'd suggest searching and also seeing if it's 'stickied' in a forum

Sort of didn't make sense to me the way you explained it. You said your read the manual and found out the dash lights should come on when you inserted the key (hope you meant that you also had to turn on the ignition without starting it).

Then you said that wasn't happening.

Then you said "All the lights EXCEPT the check engine light would become illumanated for about 4 seconds."

So which is it? Was it happening as you said the second time, or no dash light as you said the first time?

They should light up and when the engine starts, they go off, like any other car.

You didn't fix anything with the battery cable off. Just reset the engine and cleared the codes from memory.

Drive the car and if the engine light (fault light) comes back on, then read the codes that you have.

Like UptownSport said, there is problems with the radiator fan. Are you overheating at all? Last but not least, the timing belt and water pump were changed, Right?

The check engine light does not come on. It never has. All the other lights do except that one when the key is inserted into the ignition and the engine is started. The only reason I know the check engine light SHOULD be on is because I hear a chime after I start the engine. I then insert and turn the key 3 times to get the codes.

The last time I checked the codes P0440 and P0441 were gone.

The codes that remain are P0481 and a new code...P0645.

I recently had some belts changed, yes. and I drove 150 miles yesterday in the car, and no overheating The car is running like there is nothing wrong with it.
