Re: Different shift knob for the 5 speed?

Stole the rubber cover off a "massager" and stretched it over the original Q-ball shift knob. It's still round but feels..... it feels more grippy. You don't have to strangle it to get a good grip.:)

Re: Can I swap engine from different year?

Went the least confusing, least money and least work route. Decided to replaced the head gasket in the original 264k engine. I found the oil pressure was 40 lbs @ idle 80 above idle and barely found...

Re: What did you do to your PT today?

Everybody complains about snow but it keeps the ticks and mosquitos from carrying me away..... can't think of any more good things about it.

Re: Goofy oil light

Other than receiving the wrong gasket kit I fixed the know good 263K engine without a hitch. The old girl is going the distance without looking like a steam engine. Better than what I deserve...

Re: What did you do to your PT today?

Got a head gasket kit and bolts through fleabay today. One look and said "oh no", they sent a kit for a V6 engine. Did anything similar happen to you? How did it end? :(

Update: Happy ending....

diesel engine oil in a gas engine?

I've heard it's ok to use diesel engine oil in a gas engine but not gas engine oil in a diesel. Got a really good deal on some Mystik JT-8 15w-40. I do have a couple diesels. I would like to use it...

Re: FROZEN!! PT Cruisers and sub-zero weather...

It's hard to believe a car with a block heater won't start. If not starting it's probably not from the cold. My 35 year old diesel with a 13 year old battery always starts with the block heater...

Can't help you. The plain box and label looks like something from a factory inventory.

Re: Goofy oil light

Well the $6 sending unit came in. Twenty minutes installing it. The oil light works fine. What did I learn? Don't buy from O’Reilly. The black list is getting pretty long.

Re: Goofy oil light

What to do, what to do. It's either a new head gasket, engine or car. Fix the known good 263k engine or gamble on a used 100k engine. The car's still good enough for short trips. There's rust, a...

Re: Goofy oil light

Saved a ton of money when buying the, like new, diesel screw compressor from United Rental. They started it but couldn't shut it off. Trying for 30 minutes. Instead of a kill cable there was a...

Re: Goofy oil light

I know confounders should be minimized but not sure an idiot light qualifies. It's been broken for years never contributing to a running issue.
I own a Japanese screw air compressor packed with...

Re: Goofy oil light

Grounded the wire and the oil light stayed on no matter what I did. Faulty sending unit. I found the engine was worth pulling the head so if I still want to fix it after the head's pulled I'll just...

Re: Goofy oil light

No short found beyond a micro blip from something discharging. Measuring with the key on got battery voltage, almost.

PCM connections clean and dry

Temporary (test) pressure gauge is a mech. dial facing up and 6" of pipe replacing the sending unit.
Using shop pressure found no sending unit leaks. I suppose I can...

Re: Goofy oil light

Brand? Cheapest O'reilly sold. Masterpro maybe.
Socket? 27mm deep. Worked fine.
Oil travel? I'll look.
If I don't restart, the oil light never go's out. If I start it, run it for a second or...

Goofy oil light

04 non turbo
When starting cold the oil light comes on and stays on. Go's out if restarted. Replaced the sending unit, no change. A temporarily installed pressure gauge shows 80 to 100 psi cold....

Re: Can I swap engine from different year?

Should I even consider fixing the head gasket, or head if needed, on an engine with 265,000 miles? Only uses or loses a qt of oil every 1200 miles for the last eight years.

Re: 2001 pt limited auto transmission nj 42K

Sounds like a low risk high reward vehicle for a neighbor willing to learn and needs a good car. I'm to far away.

Re: Can I swap engine from different year?

Sounds like a 04 engine with more miles, further away and more expensive is worth it.

Re: Can I swap engine from different year?

Thanks
So this mean any year from 03 to 07 would work as long as I reuse everything + knock sensor down to the bare head and block? Doable. What's that half trust bearing issue? Did they omit one on...
