Default Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise announced

Get High With the PTCC!

Now that I have your attention, come join the PTCC Georgia Chapter as we cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Yes, we will be in some of the highest areas of North Carolina and Virginia.

This is a multi-day event sure to be remembered for a LONG time afterwards. On Wednesday, September 8th, we will rally in Cherokee NC. Harrah’s Casino is there for those who would like to meet with Lady Luck (oh, yeah). We will spend the night there at Comfort Inn on US 19 in Cherokee. We have a group rate of $54.49 which includes tax and deluxe continental breakfast. Make your reservations no later than August 8th by calling 828-497-2411 and asking for the PT Cruiser Club rate for that night.

On September 9th, we will depart the hotel at 8:30 am and enter the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 469.1, the south tip of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will get photos of all the cars at the entrance. Along the way, we have some options of activities including the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley (MP 455.7) To learn more about this place, visit their web site at www.wheelsthroughtime.com. Another possibility is a visit to Chimney Rock Park (MP 384.7) which you can check out at www.chimneyrockpark.com. As we get close to our first night on the Parkway, we can stop at Linville Falls and Cavern ( www.linvillecaverns.com ). At MP 317.4, we will be right outside Marion NC and we should all stop and MOON the ROOSTER! At MP 316.4, we will pull off at the Linville River parking area for some photo opportunities by the three 80’ stone arch bridges. We will then stop at the Linn Cove Viaduct Information Center at MP 304.4 to get some pics of the Linn Cove Viaduct, one of the most photographed sections of the Parkway. We will then arrive in Boone NC at MP 291.9 ( www.visitboonenc.com ). We will spend the night in the Comfort Inn and Suites at the group rate of $53.90 which includes tax. Call 1-888-854-5959 and ask for the PT Cruiser Club rate. Continental breakfast is included. Make your reservations there NLT August 9th. In Boone, we will have dinner at the Dan’l Boone Inn, a very well known family-style cookin’ restaurant (www.danlbooneinn.com ). We have reservations for 7 pm and the cost including tax and tip is $14.95 per person. The menu is served family-style and is all you can eat of fried chicken, country style steak, country ham biscuits, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, cut corn, fresh stewed apples, coleslaw, biscuits, dessert, soup or salad, and beverage. This is a GREAT place to eat. While in Boone, some may want to visit the Mast General Store in nearby Valle Crucis ( www.mastgeneralstore.com ).

On September 10th, we will leave our hotel at 7:45 am and head over to Grandfather Mountain ( www.grandfather.com ) for a wonderful morning with spectacular views and up close visit with the bears (not the one you were sleeping with). This area offers some spectacular views from the Mile-High Swinging Bridge. We will leave promptly at 12 noon headed for Mount Airy NC, better know as Mayberry ( www.visitmayberry.com )at MP 199.5. The Mount Airy Visitors Center is home to the largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia in the country. Andy Griffith's childhood friend and Mount Airy resident, Emmett Forrest, collected the artifacts that are displayed in three impressive rooms. The collection contains everything from a Matlock suit to the chair Andy was rocked in as a baby. The Surry Arts Council is planning some wonderful surprises for us there. We will have dinner downtown and tour many of the Mayberry sites that will remain open for our group. Later, we will have an optional trip to the Shelton Vineyards in the Yadkin Valley. We will spend the night at the Mount Airy Comfort Inn. Call 1-800-672-1667 and ask for the PT Cruisers rate of $64.90 which includes tax and continental breakfast. Make your reservations no later than August 10th.

On September 11th, we will leave our hotel at 8:00 am enroute to Waynesboro

That sounds awesome. I lived in NC (High Point and Winston/Salem) for 3 years and have been to most of those places. That is going to be a great cruise!

Thanks to my good friend, ZZ Taupe for developing a web site for our event. See it at http://carolinaptcruisers.com/ParkwayCruise.htm and watch it grow!

I recommend you sign up for the Choice Hotel Choice Privilege program. All four of the hotels on our itinerary fall under this program. Might as well reap some rewards as we go. To sign up, go to:
