P/S belt

evenin all. the wife just got home with her 2001 base model. she hands me a belt and says it's hard to steer. fortunately it's a friday nite so i can do some wrenching over the weekend.

does anyone have an illustration on how to replace the belt? i have a haynes manual and all it states is to remove it to replace the pump. i suppose the passenger wheel has to come off as well as the splash shield. i guess the splash shield is what i'm uncomfortable with removing.

any help is greatly appreciated.

The parts catalogs I have contain a pretty decent exploded view of the seat belts and the area surrounding them. PM / email me for directions on downloading it.

i should be okay. if not, or if i get a brain fart, i'll be back.

Page 1-21 in the haynes manual. Easy to do. Even has a built in gauge on the tensioner to tell you if the belt is stretching as any belt will do with age. That's why they make replacement belts for all cars.

ya, that's where i found it. i swear, whoever packages the belts does it just to make life miserable. had a hell of a time just getting it over the p/s pulley.
once that was on it was a piece of cake.

Re: P/S belt

just looked under my 2002 and saw the engine splash guard. there was none on the wife's 2001. i had taken off the inner wheel well. thought it was odd that i didn't have any more access to the pully with that off.:o

just bought one on ebay for $24 shipped. now i just have to hit up autozone for the plastic screws that hold it on.
