Default GT Oxygen Sensor

The down stream oxygen sensor on my 2003 GT (Turbo) needed replacement. I bought a Bosch 13718, but it was too long and could not be installed as there was not sufficient room between the catalytic converter and the body. So I bought a NGK 23125 at NAPA. It was longer than the original, but I was able to install it. After installed the "Check Engine" light went out. The engine runs fine, but it smells like it is running rich and the mileage is down from about 31 mpg to 26 mpg. Is this the wrong oxygen sensor and, if so, which is the right one and where is best to get it. Thanks.
