Default P0133 and P02096 Engine Codes

Hello fellow PT Cruiser owners! I purchased my 2006 PT brand new and with 240,000 miles on her now she is still running strong! I just had an opportunity to purchase another PT Cruiser recently with 80,000 miles on it. Its a 2005 and it had been setting for quite a while by the previous owner. I got her cleaned up and running good except that I am getting a check engine light with a P0133 and P02096 codes. Could both of these codes be in relationship with one faulty component? It runs and drives just fine but I really would like to figure out how to fix it and take care of the problem? I got fresh gas in it also. Any ideas guys? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You

P0133 Bank 1 Sensor 1

Replace the O2 Sensor at the exhaust manifold (upstream).

I would suggest removing the triggered engine codes and see if the same codes come back with an OBDII Scanner tool.

P0133 -O2 (B1 S1) Slow Response
Possible Causes:
1. Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
2. O2 element is fuel contaminated
3. O2 element is deteriorated or it has failed

P2096 - Downstream Fuel System 1/2 Lean Conditions:
Possible Causes:

1. Exhaust leak
2. Engine mechanical problem
3. O2 Sensor has failed
4. O2 Sensor signal circuit or return circuit problem
5. Fuel contamination

Your 02 sensor might be triggering P2096.

I would suggest checking for exhaust leaks first then check the wires going to the 02 sensor.

If okay I would check for engine mechanical problems. You might have something causing the 02 sensor to trigger.

Do you have a turbo on your 2005 Pt Cruiser? If so they are known to have cracked exhaust manifolds.
