Default 'o4 Turbo bypass?

The bearings in the turbo are bad and grinding....can the turbo be by-passed?
I know I'll lose performance, but I'm on a fixed income and can't afford a new turbo at this time.

Bet you talked to the dealer and got quoted for something like $1500+. You can get a used turbo off of ebay or from someone parting out a turbo. The Neon SRT-4 turbo is the same as the PT. A used one is usually around $300.

I got mine rebuilt at

They are very friendly and do good work. You will have to change the oil line as well with most rebuilds to get a warranty on it.
Mine cost $410 with shipping and all.

No telling what you will get when purchasing a used one.

I agree with PTCT, there are a few good shops out there that do nice rebuilds, I've not heard of the one he's mentioned but I'm sure you can find one that will work with you. I do know that the longer you run that thing you are gambling at a huge implosion. You're going to wing something down that intake off the turbine and vaboom it goes.

Not to step on toes but I've found some even cheaper w/o even trying.

SRT forums are the best place too look (they have regional sections). Look for a more local-SRT forum as well, they're everywhere! I've seen turbo's with zero shaft play and perfect running condition easily go for $150-250.

We do not recommend trying to bypass the turbo. No matter what you do exhaust will still travel past the turbine wheel causing it to spin. Eventually the turbine wheel could shear off and will do irrepairable damage to the exhaust manifold contour. If this happens you will have to replace both the turbo and exhaust manifold. A new exhaust manifold is almost twice as much to replace as the turbo. Aftermarket Turbo replacement is rather reasonable compared to dealership prices. See photos and info posted in our album section.
