So, the factory wheels were suffering the dreaded chrome peel:
As two of them were needing to be topped up with air twice a week, I decided to replace them. In the end, I selected steel wheels and hubcaps for economy reasons. The 16" steel wheels are from Summit Racing, Unique (Cragar) Series 83 Black Wheels 83-66518, $47.58 each (no shipping or handling on orders over $99, delivery was quick). The Cruiser is an '01 with disk brakes on all four wheels. The fit was fine. Here's the steel wheels on the car. I did paint the brake hub centers black so they wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. It looks a little edgy without the hubcaps. I got a couple of sets of inexpensive hubcaps from eBay. They were under $30 a set. Here's the car with hubcaps #1: Here's the car with hubcaps #2: I've got a set of center cap graphics in red from StreamlineDesign for either hubcap and may add some paint touches to hubcap #1. (I know, hubcaps, sacrilege...) Thoughts? |

This is the set I recently purchased for my PT from Pep Boys for $40. They're all chrome so they go with the other chrome accents:
![]() ![]() The ones you have in #1, I've had those, also from Pep Boys for about $40. Steel wheels are certainly easier to take care of. I've gone through several sets of hubcaps, like when they get scratched, easy to replace and you can get a different look. I prefer hubcaps that are smooth in appearance, are easy to clean, rather than those with the fake lugnuts, harder to clean. Of the one's you have, I vote for #2. I also like the #2 hubcaps over #1. I've never liked the plain wheel look. Drives me nuts.

I wasn't trying to be in the competition, I was just trying to give the OP of what a PT looks like with a different style cover. I've tried a few and while some look good in the box or on a website, they may take on a totally different look once on the vehicle. I would like to try to find some that have some bright blue on them to go with the body color.

![]() I just didn't really like any of the OP's choices that were offered. I did chose the best of his choices, but I liked yours better.
